I used to have a record of any messages that I've sent but I dont seem to be saving them anymore, have I unclicked something without knowing........I know that a possibility

I noticed the same yesterday, I received a pm, typed a reply then couldn't remember if I had sent it, still not sure now as it doesn't show in the sent folder.

You have to click the save it in sent folder now each time you send a pm if you want to keep a record of it

Glad I noticed this before I posted the question!

I didn't realise that you had to save each sent pm now - is this just since the main site was updated?
