Can I over do it with Coat King
« on: May 27, 2012, 09:07:35 PM »
Bought my first Coat King last weekend at the Dog Show in Edinburgh. It looks like a mini rake (not sure if there is any other kind). The gentleman I bought it from said it wouldn't cut the coat but rake out the under coat.

I have been using it on Sash as she has quite a thick black coat and finds it too hot in the recent hot spell. I take her to the groomers every eight weeks and she gets hand stripped and trimmed. My question is can I ruin her coat by using the coat king too much. I have used it a couple of times just combing her coat with it but there are handfuls and handfuls of coat coming out not sure when to stop.

Any advice pls

Thanks

Karen

The instructions I got with mine said use every 2 weeks. But I guess it depends on how much you use it each time, I.e. 5 mins compared to an hour is very different. I'm sure 5 mins often would be ok, an hour often may not be so good. Sorry for the useless reply. You could always mention it to the groomers and see what they say?

I am sure my instructions said once a week, but i agree with dispydoodlenoodle if you only spend 5  minutes when you could probably do it more often.  That said i probably wouldnt keep doing the same area more than a couple of times a week.

i find using a steel tooth comb with an elastic band threaded through much better, it doesnt seem to break the hair so much, and i tend to use this quite regularly and it collects much more hair than the coat king.
