Vet double appointments - am I right to be worried? UPDATE PG 3

The vet called yesterday asking me to come down to see her on Thursday afternoon - she has booked a double appointment, to discuss Odie's blood test results.  

At my insistence, last week when he went for his routine electrolytes testing, I asked them to do full bloods as I said I thought there was still something 'amiss' with him (besides his Addison's Disease).  He frequently has pale gums/is still tetchy at times and seems to have 'that look' in his eyes occasionally, which tells me he just isn't feeling right :'(

Of course, being a complete pessimist, I'm really worried about what she's going to tell me - is the double appointment booking a bad sign or it it normal to have such a long appt??  Lesley

 :bigarmhug:'s hun, I completely understand how worried you are - but try not to.  Seems to me, going through blood tests at the moment, that they are very open to interpretation when used in conjunction with past results etc.  It might well be that she wants to ensure you have a complete understanding of what they all mean etc, and doing that in conjunction with maybe more checks on Odie, she might well be ensuring that you and she don't feel rushed... maybe that she has different options in terms of treatment etc.
I know none of that will stop you worrying... nothing will, but try not to think the worst...  :bigarmhug:

Thanks Lisa :luv:  Fortunately the vets have cottoned on quite quickly that I do my research so they can discuss details and I'm able to understand it a little!  I've just got a feeling that my hunch is correct and they've found something else wrong :-\    You're right though, I'm a born worrier :embarassed:

It's strange that a few of us are having a spate of health issues with our cockers atm, isn't it?

I know it's easy for me to say Lesley, but try not to worry too much. You are doing everything you can for Odie, and I hope everything will be OK for you tomorrow.  You were right to trust your instincts and get a blood test for Odie, and it may be that there is something about these that is unusual and that is why the vet suggested double appointment.  Given his addisons though it may be that she just wants to make sure that you have more than the standard 10 minute slot to discuss issues. I will be thinking of you tomorrow, and sending hugs and positive thoughts your way, and Odie's of course. :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

I can completely understand why you're worried as I'd be just the same but it really doesn't mean it's going to be bad news. It could simply be that the vet has a lot to discuss with you, not necessarily bad things, but perhaps the blood tests have given a fuller picture of what's going on and what can be done to help Odie's health improve. It could be good news :luv:

Aw thanks guys :luv:  I know it could be anything and it's natural to think the worst but I'm just still in a tizzy with Odie not being back to his usual self, I really can't imagine being told anything else is wrong with him :'(  Hopefully you are right and there is just a lot of info/results to discuss.

I'm sure it will all be ok, although our imaginations run away with us and we always think the worst when these things happen (I know I do). Will be thinking of you and keeping fingers crossed there's nothing bad going on:)

Also if there was anything else wrong with Odie that needed emergency treatment i would expect the vet to call you in immediately  :shades:

Oh Lesley big hugs from Willow and I. What a worry for you, have no advice Im afraid as our vets offered open surgery only so we dont have to have appointments.

Try not to worry (says the woman that worries far tooooo much herself)

Our vet appointments are at 15 min intervals, so if you want a proper chat you are pushed for time so maybe they've allowed a double appointment to allow a proper discussion. Just make sure they don't charge double  :shades:

Easy to say don't worry, as you say you like to do your research, so they are allowing you time to ask questions. Good Luck

Lesley, I am a worrier too, so I sympathise.  However, my sensible head says that it is to give you time to talk to the vet, and that can only be a good thing.  So keep us posted, and I'll be thinking off you and I am worrying with you. Cuddles for Odie and for you too  :bigarmhug:
