i need advice please...help!!!!

back from the vets......

Nasty, evil grass seed......although being the beautifully tempered and brave girl she is the vet managed to get it out without sedation.....

she also has a "hot spot" on the side of her face under her ear....i have no experience with hotsopts so if someone can enlighten me about them, i would be most grateful.

we have eardrops and ointment for her face, total bill £58 which i dont think is too painful, however the vet did say keep an eye incase there was another one down there... i blinking hope not!!

anyway, ebony is looking and feeling very sorry for herself, still shaking her head and scratching a little but i suppose thats normal if the ear is still inflammed, hopefully it will settle down soon.

shes just been spoilt with some of the puppies food as she loves it, a drink of goats milk, (her fave) and is asleep on a nice squishy quilt on my sofa (dogs not normally allowed on sofas here) to keep the other furry horrors away from her, and she is asleep..

fingers crossed everyone for a speedy recovery, and thanks everso for all the replies, positive thoughts, and especially for the rapid responses last night.....

I'm so glad they managed to get the grass seed out of her ear without too much trouble My GSD that's at home with my parents gets hotspots occassionally, usually in summer. They're often caused by allergies etc and I've found that clipping the area around it helps it to heal up faster. The vet's obviously given you some ointment to put on it which should help with the inflammation and any infection. Fingers crossed she's all healed up really soon

I'm glad it hadn't travelled further down and was able to be removed so easily - Jarv is beautifully natured as well but when a seed is perforating an eardrum it often isn't possible to remove without sedation

Yes, ebony had one last summer which had attached itself very deep, and she had to be sedated for that as they were unsure whether it had caused any damage which needed repair, luckily it hadn't xxx

The best treatment for a hot spot is to bathe the area with hibiscrub diluted 1 part hibi to 10 water I do this 3 times a day and they clear up very quickly. My Rottie is prone to them so have had plenty of practice
