cocker bitch v cocker dog prices
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:09:35 AM »
Why is it some breeders charge more for bitches than dogs??

I have found one advert this morning, charging £450 for a dog, and £595 for a bitch! That's nearly £150 difference!!!! I just don't understand why they do it!

xx

Breeding- they charge more as people inaccurately think you can make a quick buck out of breeding from your bitch.  My Molly's breeder charged the same price for dogs and bitches, and put an endorsement on Molly's paper stating that if she had pups they could not be KC reg.

Our breeder charged marginally more for females (£25) because she said females were more popular than males and she had found it a helpful way to prompt a conversation with potential new cocker owners about the pros/ cons/ differences between males and females.

I've read that some charge more because of the potential to breed- but this was definately not the case with our breeder as she endorses her girls and also gave us a stern lecture about breeding from our girl but not telling her due to the costs/ risks etc. associated with breeding.

There's a recent thread about this:

Most breeders charge the same for each pup, but some think that others command a higher price. Personally I'd steer clear of a breeder that did this.

I guess its just supply and demand - If demand was the same the price would be the same - If you look on many websites it seems overwelmingly to be "one dog left" rather than "one bitch left" so people price acordingly. :-\

Personaly I doubt the diference is primeraly due to do with breeding potential but I'm not sure. ph34r

There should be no reason to charge more for bitches...they are all raised the same regardless of their sex
Either way i would walk away from a breeder doing this  ph34r >:(

More importantly i would check with breeders that all relevant health tests are done & if the puppies are raised well (plus mum & other resident dogs)  ;)
