adaptil?

with Rosie now getting upset over being left alone at night i was hoping that mybe some of you might know what this is its called adaptil i like the idea but i have no idea if i should try it out or not has anyone used this if so how well does it work???

I have used the collars with some success, they used to be called DAP if you want to look them up. They release a Pheramone similar to what a mother would release to her pups which helps calm them.

The plug in diffusers take about 2 weeks to work, by which time Rosie would have probably settled anyway!  You can get a spray to put it on the bedding which is instant, but wears off really quickly.  I used the spray for our first holiday away when Jinley was 4 months old, not sure if they work or not though.

I had the plug in and collar didn't notice a thing and missy certainly didn't sleep at all the first week. I wouldnt  waste your Money on them.

I think they are supposed to help maintain a feeling of calm, rather than create it.  If you do buy it, I think it's much cheaper online than at places like Pets at Home.

I had the plug in next to Louis's playpen when he was a puppy and I'm not sure that it helped at all .

I have the spray now and if I know I'm going to have visitors coming to the house at a particular time I use the spray downstairs about 30 minutes before the visitors are due. It's part of my strategy of helping Louis cope with visitors he doesn't know, or doesn't see often. After the spray I shut the dogs in the study when the visitors arrive, preferably before they've rung the doorbell and started the dogs barking. The study has a glass panelled door and the dogs can see and hear the visitors as they arrive and when they're in the hall and living room. Louis lays down and watches in an interested way but not on high alert. If the visitors are dog friendly I let the dogs greet them after a while and reward them (the dogs) quietly if they stay quiet and calm.

The strategy works very well and I think the spray helps but it's impossible to say for sure.

I have an Adaptil plug in next to Pepes bed and he has slept like a baby since day 1.  The minute you plug it in it starts to release the theremones in to the air so no need to wait any amount of time for it to work.  Some people swear by then, including vets, kennels and breeders so I thought why not try myself.  Perhaps Pepe would sleep all night anyway but I am glad I had it for day 1.  Good luck whatever you decide.

what about the scent of lavender lightly sprayed somewhere near here? its very calming, not sure if it would make her sneeze though

I had considered one of the diffusers to try to calm Archie down when I have visitors but the price put me off (plus some negative reviews). He is always absolutely crazy when we visit my Mum or when she comes here. Since she looks after him if I am out for longer than a few hours it's quite a problem. We can't work out what it is that makes him act up but yesterday I had a party to go to and so he had his first sleepover with her. We were both worried. I decided to try the diffuser but in PAH I found a natural diffuser called Pet Remedy which lasts longer and was much cheaper. I've since found it for even less on Amazon. We plugged it in and it was miraculous. For the first time ever we were able to sit and have a cup of tea in her lounge without him jumping all over us. He slept all night with no problems at all. I strongly recommend giving it a try. It smells quite nice too!
