If you go back to when every dog was wild in packs, most of the bitch had a litter, and im keeping my dogs into the pack as much as poss,  As i work them, and they get feed as if they were wild not on silly productive food.

Thought id make a point.

Wrong!!! Wild pack dogs have an Alpha Dog and Bitch who succesfully breed - end of...

And what annoys me is this "if we go back to when dogs lived in wild packs" line.

Humans started changing dogs thousands of years ago to suit their needs. Dogs have been domesticated ever since...

Yes they still have basic instics, but when was the last time anyone saw a wild pack of  English Cocker Spaniels, Poodles, or any other domesticated PET

Not long ago I considered putting my dog to stud, but after lots of thought and soul searching, and advice from here (ta guys  ;) ) I decided against it.

I originally bought Rufus as a family pet and companion for Vahri, and that's the way it'll stay.

The one point I have trouble with is Calley's. I think there are lots of people out there who would jump at the chance of buying an unregistered Cocker. Whether they would be good homes...............well that's another question.

We paid £350 for each of our working Cockers - full pedigrees supplied, and I'm sure it would have been easier to adopt a baby  B)  so I'm sure the same beautiful puppies at a fraction of the cost would appeal to loads of people.

Please think very carefully before you go ahead.

I know lots of grown women who maintain it's each and every woman right to have a baby. The flip side being, as I work in a nursery, I see the poor wee souls who end up in care. Not eveyone is a natural mother, and I guess the same goes for Cockers   . Nothing wrong in being young. free and single  :).

I haven't posted on this thread before because I rather hoped it would have reached a natural end by now. As it seems to be going on I just want to add a couple of points.....

I have always felt that with rights there are also responsibilities.

I won't repeat what I consider to be very sound argumants already posted, but I would be against breeding from this bitch.

Yes, you have the "right" to breed from her, but I would urge you to consider your responsibilities to the breed as a whole; in ensuring that defects are bred out as much as possibel, your responsibilities to the pups; in that I DO feel that better owners are prepared to do more research, and as a result would be reluctant to buy a pup which cannot be registered. The less "good" owners are the more likely to fail to see their commitment to the pup through to the end. And your responsibiliities to potential new owners to ensure only the very best pups (ie from registered parents).

I don't wish to offend anyone by saying these things, but I do feel that they need saying.

I have the feeling that this was simply a troll who joined and posted to stir up trouble rather than learn from the passion and experience of members. Fortunately - they received a very consistent response and saw how dedicated ppl are on COL to protecting our chosen breed.

Several very good reasons not to breed have been raised and the poster has not themself visible since the first night they posted. I'm therefore locking the thread so it can simply lie in peace.

Thanks chaps n chapesses.
