I think i get where you are coming from - You have had good cockers for a number of years and you are nearing the time where you may have to considder looking for a new puppy.
BUT you have met some bad eggs - or have been told stories which have worried you about 'todays' cockers.

I don't think this issue in general is really just related to 'today's' cockers (my grandfather bred cockers in the 30s) and so called problems have emerged over 30 years ago (unless that's what you mean by 'today').

I meant present day puppies - Cockercrazy has an older cocker - so the last time they searched for a puppy was years ago, although the temperament problems were around then they were probably uninformed and not aware at that time.
Since then i have a feeling they have heard stories and met people with bad experiances (well you are going to attract attention with a cocker by your side

) the 'ooooo my mate had one of those and it was nasty' is a story i have heard plenty of times. Cockercrazy is now aware , and understandably worried about temperament problems.
i know the problem is not limited to 'todays' cockers and is a product of past breeding - but they are talking about buying a present day puppy - so my advice is to help them make the right decision regarding purchacing a pup in the present.
Would like to say i'm yet to meet a bad temperamented cocker or a cocker with problems - but never the less i know there are some out there.
Sorry if i was misunderstood
