I have never been so scared!!!

When I take the dogs to the OH's, we walk them around the big field at the back of his house. The dogs love it there and have met loads of other nice dogs and owners whilst on their run. But today, we were just leaving the field, called them in to lead them up and this guy comes charging out of his garden (which backs onto the field), chasing 2 MASSIVE greyhounds - both muzzled but not on leads. One of them bolted down the alley-way towards the street and the other towards us. Caring for the safety of his dog, the man runs after the street-bound mutt, leaving the other to come charging towards us. Chester being the friendly dog he is, began walking towards it, but quickly turned back when he realised the dog's intentions. It came charging towards him, sending him in circles around us. Molly set off after him, trying to knock him off Ches's course, all the while he'syelping his wee head off. I'm trying to call him back, Ewan's running around trying to get hold of them. Eventually Chester comes to me and I swoop him up. The greyhound then starts jumping and snarling at me to get at Chester. I didn't want to kick it away or anything so I just kept turning away, got some scratches on my back.
At this point the owner comes running up muttering his apologies, while trying to rugbytackle this vicious dog to the ground. Now it's given up on Chester and is now tear-arsing after Molly, Ewan's spinning around trying to catch her but believe it or not, she can out-run a greyhound! Eventually he caught her, the greyhound was caught and put back on it's lead and the owner's trying his best to apologise, asking if they're okay. But I couldn't even answer him, just put the lead on Molly, kept a hold of Ches and marched off back to Ewan's. When we got to the gate, I just burst into tears, shaking uncontrolably. Can't help but wonder what would have happened if that dog hadn't had a muzzle on! Brings a lump to my throat.
Both dogs are fine - no injuries, they're eating fine, but they're really sub-dued. Chester won't come if you call him and Molly just wants to sit on your lap and be comforted. Either that or she's comforting me cause I think I came off worse. The police have just been round cause when Mum went round to the owner's house, there was no reply. Policeman's going up to "have words" now apparently

What's most worrying is that this dog was more than happy to rip through me to get to the pup. Supposing they're ex-race greyhounds, they'll have been trained to "seek and destroy" the rabbit? Chester being so small, maybe he resembled the rabbit? I dunno, all I can say is I was terrified and I never want to hear my babies squeal like that ever EVER again and the next dog to attack them WILL be kicked. I don't care what the owner has to say!
And now I'm off for a vodka.
