Maybe it would be worthwhile seeking out some good natured greyhounds to socialise ur dogs with? a dog near me was attcked by a black lab as a puppy and when it got older it was aggressive to all large black dogs, which was such a shame for the owner because it was very friendly to all other dogs but she couldn't let it off the lead in the park incase a big black dog came in.

Dil's best doggie friend was a greyhound called cookie.....I think she was actually in love with him but he was having none of it  :005: and for some reason these two breeds can really get on, so it would be a shame if your dogs became frightened of all greyhounds!

Definitely try and find some friendly greyhounds to socialise with, Jarvis adores leggy dogs, greyhounds, lurchers, etc. :luv:

Sounds very scary and I completely understand where you're coming from - we had a similar thing with a Rottie last summer which terrorised our two, it wasn't actually trying to bite them or anything but just throwing its weight around and following them - basically being a bully and freaking them out to the point they were both screaming and running away from it (but unfortunately in this case the owner wasn't at all responsible and completely ignored my pleas for her to call her dog away so that we could get on our way  >:D).

I do think in this case at least the owner tried to sort it out as quickly as possible. I think the fact that the greyhound was jumping up at you is just because  you'd picked your dog up - we had a similar thing with a couple of staffies who had it in for Bella and Ali picked her up (owners were busy smoking fags the other side of the park and taking no notice at all even with us shouting at them). As soon as Bella was in Ali's arms the dogs then started leaping up and down trying to bite her on the bum and Ali got a few nips in the process (but I don't think they were people-aggressive dogs, it was more like co-lateral damage).

Greyhounds can be boisterous, there used to be one near us who always used to charge at Bella and then some to a screeching halt in front of her, and initially she was really freaked but then got used to it and would just tell it off.

Do take the advice of trying not to let your dogs pick up on the fact that you're now nervous of greyhounds, it can really make things worse (we had this with staffies - Bella was attacked 3 or 4 times and I ended up so that if I saw one my heart would be leaping out of my chest and Bella definitely picked up on that. When I started to calm down about them, so did she  :shades:). It's really hard but just try and be positive and find some more placid greyhounds for them to meet if possible.

Greyhounds dont usually see smaller dogs as prey but can be very very boisterous.

I agree mine have had quite a bit of rough and tumble from greys and lurchers as they really do play roughly

That's why I don't normally let my lurchers play with other dogs; but I have had complaints about that too - for not letting my dogs play with a cavalier... Sometimes we can't get it right whatever we do...

I would imagine that the owner of the greyhounds was just as shaken as you were... I know how it feels to be in your shoes... one of my lurchers has been attacked several times, 6 times needing stitches. I also know how it feels to have lurchers that play too rough and make an unsuspecting dog squeal... Neither is a nice feeling and both needs lots of confidence building afterwards.

If you can, find greyhound or any sighthounds to walk with as soon as possible to make sure that your dogs (and you) are not too badly affected! I always used to do this after an attack on Dylan... It meant that he never developped any issues with any breeds... (The only exception being labradors after a choc labrador would not leave him alone and kept hassling him until Dylan lost it with him and told him off very sharply).

I hope you are all feeling better today.
