i got talking to someone who said they were looking for a choc roan pup and found some, the breeder was also breeding sables and the choc/roans were £1500 and sables £2000 :o i nearly spat my coffee out! >:(

I also know of somebody that breeds chocolate roan, chocolate roan & tan and charges an absolute fortune, even though she doesn't health test!!   >:D >:D  Worst thing is some people are stupid enough to pay it.

I saw an advert 3 weeks ago on the net offering a " rare lemon show cocker spaniel " for sale for 2000 pounds  :005: :005: I answered it asking which bit of the cocker was rare , it was obviously the price as I have rarely seen one for 2000 pounds  :rofl1: :rofl1:
Needless to say the seller was not amused .

Being serious though , anyone paying above the normal guides explained on COL for a well bred,AA sable or liver is only encouraging the money breeders to breed more . You will see more badly bred "coloured" cockers than well bred ones .There aren't so many honest good breeders who have these colours .
I sold mine ( at 750 pounds ) mainly to show people because I had a  few commercial breeders enquiring which scared me . :fear2: :fear2:

I can't believe these people >:(. No way would I pay that sort of money just because of the dog's colour. I paid the average price in Scotland for Brodie, I didn't have to pay more just because she happened to be a liver roan. I had no idea at the time that her colour was seen as 'fashionable', and it makes me sad to think that dogs like her are ending up with unscrupulous breeders/puppy farmers because they can make more money out of them :'(

Just out of interest -what are the 'fashionable' colours?

In the Netherlands the blue Roan is by far the most popular. But fashionable colours are chocolate, chocolate and tan, liver roan and the sable but less fashionable than the livers/choco's. Luckily most breeders out here don't charge more for these colours .
